
Snehalaya is a Registered Charitable Trust which runs 5 Child Care Institutions- CCIs ( Snehalaya Boys Home, Auxilium Snehalaya, Jyoti Snehalaya and Ila Snehalaya) in the city, and an After Care Project and a major child rights project called Child Friendly Guwahati.
The first CCI of Snehalaya (Abode of love) for the children e in need of care and protection was officially launched by the Salesians of Don Bosco Guwahati, Province in
Assam (India) on 16th August,2000 on the 185th Birth Anniversary of St. John Bosco. It was a millennium gift for the homeless and destitute children. However, Snehalaya became operational only on 1st January 2001. Snehalaya founded by Fr. Lukose Cheruvalel SDB at Dhirenpara in Guwahati, started as a small shelter home for boys; it has grown big with 5 Child Care Institution (CCI) for both boys & girls of all castes and creeds catering today to 125 children in its residential programme. It reaches nearly 2300 children in the slum areas, railway stations, streets etc. through its non-residential programme “Child Friendly Guwahati” and has shaped the lives of 169 young adults through its After Care Project.
